When is a commercial license required for building houses?
There are some cases in which a commercial building license is required to build houses, rather than a residential building license.
Louisiana Contractors Licensing Law states "a construction project consisting of residential homes where the contractor has a single contract for the construction of more than two homes within the same subdivision shall be deemed a commercial undertaking." This means that the contractor must have a commercial building license in order to undertake this project.
Additionally, the law states "a construction project which consists of construction of more than two single residential homes, or more than one single residential duplex, triplex, or fourplex, shall be deemed a commercial undertaking."
